TRAINING
For Parents/Caregivers

Currently Scheduled Training and Workshops for Parents/Caregivers

General Information

CBI Consultants has recently developed training materials specifically tailored to parents and caregivers. CBI Consultants has a great respect for parents and cargivers and has valued their input and involvement over the years. The content for the training sessions is based on the feedback we have received from families over the past 10 years. The parent/caregiver training sessions provide families with the following:

  1. More information about what behavioural support service is and what to expect.
  2. Practical, user-friendly strategies that may assist families while they are waiting for more specialized services.
  3. Regular access to behaviour consultants to problem solve, ask questions, or discuss concerns.
  4. Opportunities to address specific topics of interest

Workshop and Course Format

This training is available to parents/caregivers who are experiencing behavioural challenges with their child/children. The workshops include 24 hours of instruction over an 8 week period. Each parent/caregiver is provided with a written manual of the information provided below and an extensive list of readings and references. The course includes individual and group exercises and provides parents/caregivers with realistic, practical strategies and ideas that can easily be implemented at home.

Feedback From Families

Over the past year, CBI Consultants has received very positive feedback from families who have completed the parent/caregiver training. The workshop has benefited many parents/caregivers who are awaiting behavioural support services by providing some insights as to why their child/children are engaging in challenging behaviour. The workshop has also given many parents ideas and strategies to try at home that have shown to be effective in supporting their child/children. Many parents/caregivers have found the course information to be useful with all of their children, not only with the child with a disability.

Feedback:
Has greatly helped me be a better parent. Great course for all parents. Course is very interesting and presented well!. I found the real life examples very helpful. I learned a great deal more about why my son behaves the way he does rather than what he does!
- Tom and Debbie Boucher, Coquitlam, B.C.

All the information presented in this course makes so much sense. It provides another way of looking at things especially trying to see things from my child's point of view. I see small results at home. I would like to take some of these approaches to school and get them to try them. We have an IEP meeting coming up so I hope everyone else can get as enthused as I am.
