4A. Basic
Instructional Techniques in Inclusive Classrooms
This one-day
workshop provides an overview of strategies that can used to provide
instructional supports to students with moderate to severe disabilities
in inclusive classrooms. Participants are taught to conduct task analyses
and ecological inventories of functional routines in school and community
settings. Strategies such as cooperative learning and are also discussed,
along with basic teaching techniques such as prompting/fading and chaining.
Participants will be taught how to adapt instruction to best "match"
the learning styles of individual students.

4B. Using
the Theory of "Multiple Intelligences" to Adapt Curricula in Inclusive
Classrooms
This one-day
workshop provides participants with information about the use of the
principle of partial participation and Howard Gardner's theory of multiple
Intelligences as it applies to adapting curricula for learners with
special needs. Seven "Intelligences" or learning styles are introduced
via participant activities related to each. Strategies for designing
individualized curricular and instructional adaptations in inclusive
classroom, based on these learning styles are also explained and illustrated
through videotape and other examples. Participants will have opportunities
to work in small groups and apply the workshop content to case study
examples.

4C. Facilitating
Social Inclusion and Friendships in Inclusive Settings
This one-day
workshop emphasizes the importance of a systematic approach to facilitating
social inclusion in schools. Participants will be taught to use strategies
such as Circle of Friends and MAPS to evaluate students' social networks
and plan interventions aimed at expanding them. The importance of providing
longitudinal social network supports throughout the school year to students
with and without disabilities will be emphasized, along with strategies
for accomplishing this. Peer tutor and special friends models will also
be examined.
