1A. Community Inclusion 101: Who?, What?, Where?,
and Why?
This one-day
workshop explains the rationale for including persons with complex support
needs in inclusive community settings. Four components needed for successful
inclusion are described and illustrated: Inclusion, activity participation,
social participation, and supports for participation. Slides and videotapes
are used to support the information provided. The emphasis is on inclusion
of people with severe physical and intellectual disabilities.
Target
Audience: Parents/guardians, family, friends and neighbours of persons
with mental handicaps; social workers, residential, community, and vocational
supports, child care supports, supervisory and training personnel

1B. Using the Lifestyle
Development Process (LDP) to Design Personal Support Plans (PSPs)
This one-day
workshop provides a systematic process for determining individualized
daily and weekly schedules for people with disabilities. The workshop
first introduces a strategy for generating a personal profile of the
focus individual. Then, the person's current daily and weekly schedule
is analyzed in light of this profile. Finally, participants are taught
to use the personal profile to generate an activity schedule based on
individual preferences in the community.
