4A. Basic
Instructional Techniques in Community Settings
This one-day
workshop provides an overview of strategies that can used to provide
instructional supports to people with moderate to severe disabilities.
Participants are taught to conduct task analyses and ecological inventories
of functional routines in residential, vocational, and community settings.
Strategies such as prompting/fading and chaining are also discussed
in detail. Participants will be taught how to adapt instruction to best
"match" the learning styles of the individuals they support.
Target
Audience: Parents/guardians, family, friends and neighbours of persons
with mental handicaps; social workers, residential, community, and vocational
supports, child care supports, supervisory and training personnel
Cost:

4B. Advanced
Instructional Techniques in Community Settings
This one-day
workshop provides participants with an explanation and examples of the
principle of partial participation as it applies to adapting activities
in residential, vocational, and community settings. Strategies for designing
individualized instructional adaptations in community settings are also
discussed in detail. Participants will have opportunities to work in
small groups and apply the workshop content to case study examples.

4C. Facilitating
Social Inclusion and Friendships in Community Settings
This one-day
workshop emphasizes the importance of a systematic approach to facilitating
social inclusion in the community. Participants will be taught to use
strategies such as Lifestyle Development
Planning (LDP) and MAPS to evaluate peoples' social networks and
plan interventions aimed at expanding them. The importance of providing
longitudinal social network supports will be emphasized, along with
strategies for accomplishing this.
